We co-founded steckwerk, to introduce a novel modular bookshelf system which is composed of three different elements only.
No tools or fasteners are needed and the system allows for free recombination - just by plugging the elements together in the desired way. steckwerk boards are entirely made from wood composites and produced locally in the cabinetmaker´s workshop owned by the Hechinger family. At steckwerk, we were interested in enhanced functionality of our furniture, such as integrated lighting. From our research, we learned that low-voltage connectivity can be integrated in modular systems, without compromising core functionality. We built valuable knowledge in this domain, combining the latest technologies from microelectronics and the automotive industry into furniture making.
